Let’s make a Greek crotalum

A crotalum was a kind of  clapper used in ancient Greece.

They consisted of a split reed or cane, which clattered when shaken with the hand.

We will make a cardboard crotalum.

You need:

  • Cardboard;
  • A 8 diameter glass;
  • Scissors;
  • Plastic or metal stoppers;
  • Adhesive tape;
  • A black marker;
  • Pencils or felt-tip pens.
  1. Place a glass or an adhesive tape on the cardboard;
  2. Draw the perimeter by the black marker;
  3. Repeat number 1 and 2, the second circle must be joined to the first;
  4. Cut off the silhouette;
  5. Bend the cardboard and glue a stopper in the middle of each circle;
  6.  Decorate the outside side as you prefer.

Here are some pictures you can print and use to decorate your crotalum.
